The loneliest seat in the building

You’re making board-level decisions by yourself. And you’ve found going it alone only gets you so far.

Your team needs you to have the answers. Your friends have never had to make payroll. Your spouse wants to help, but they’re not in the business every day.

A traditional board is built for investors. Their eyes are on revenue and profit, not on asking you the hard questions or helping you change course when you need to. So there are things you feel you can’t bring to them, and the biggest decisions get stuck in your head with no one to talk them through.

A quick gut check

How much are you doing by yourself?

Six things owners in our groups have said out loud.
Tap how true each one is for you right now.
“I can only be completely honest about my business with a few people.”
“I can’t tell if I’m seeing a situation clearly or just reacting to it.”
“Too many decisions still have to come through me.”
“I’ve hired or kept the wrong person longer than I should have.”
“Business problems end up as the conversation at my dinner table.”
“I’m running on empty and fighting for any margin I can get.”

You’re not the only one

We know how heavy that seat gets.
So we built a board for owners.

Every owner in our rooms has lost sleep over a hire, a price or a partner. Brian runs a business too, and he’s led more than 3,500 mastermind calls, so he knows the pressure doesn’t stay at the office. The Executive Mastermind gives you what a good board gives (outside eyes, hard questions, people who want you to win) without investors, votes or anyone over you.

A traditional board
  • Investors and directors with a stake in your company
  • Shareholders and the bottom line come first
  • You report to them
  • Everything goes on the record
Your board in the Executive Mastermind
  • Owners who’ve sat in your seat
  • You, your business, and your family come first
  • You’re in charge. They walk with you, not over you
  • What’s said in the room stays in the room

All the counsel of a board. None of the control.

Inside the room

What does a meeting look like?

Owners settling in around the table, laughing, coffee in hand.
STEP 1
Check in

Each owner shares a high, a low, and something outside of work, so the room gets to know the person, not just the business.

One owner talking while the rest of the room leans in and listens.
STEP 2
The hot seat

One member brings a real decision. The room asks questions first and gives advice second.

Close-up of hands writing in a notebook, a phone face-down on the table.
STEP 3
What’s next?

Before the hot seat wraps, the room asks that owner what’s next. They leave with a clear next step to take.

I've been in a Mastermind with Brian since 2017. He is an amazing coach with a great heart. I can always rely on him to shoot me straight and “speak the truth in love” when necessary. A great coach will tell you what you may not want to hear, but really need to hear. He's a great reflective listener and is intentional to fully understand and clarify what you're trying to say.

The environment Brian fosters in a Mastermind is one full of intentionality, safety, challenge, and growth. The way he approaches questions (and teaches us to do the same) allows each person to truly get clear on what it is they're working through. The accountability, the vulnerability, and the intentionality behind his group is life changing.

I was intimidated when I first joined an established mastermind group with Brian. He immediately welcomed my perspective, encouraging me to speak confidently to my experience. He helped me navigate difficult and seemingly impossible scenarios: working in a family owned business, becoming a partner in the business, hiring and eventually firing my brother, all while continuing to guide me into the full business owner that I am today.

Brian is a powerhouse of wisdom and insight. His guidance is both practical and deeply encouraging. What makes [the mastermind] even more impactful is being surrounded by like-minded entrepreneurs. It creates an incredible environment where we can openly share ideas, ask questions, and support one another. It's is a game-changer!

Brian helped evaluate our systems / processes and educate us to be successful with delegation, which is imperative to hiring and building a successful team. He has been able to assist us to grow from a very small team to over 60 employees. He's an amazing problem solver and has been an enormous help to us for close to 10 years.

Prior to having Brian as our coach, we as a company had no clear vision. We were disorganized and lacked the tools to grow our business. We had reservations about if coaching would really be worth the investment. Brian was always accessible and objective in how he viewed our problems and the solutions he recommended, yet was always empathetic to the emotional aspect of business challenges.

I wasn't sure investing our company's resources in a coach was a good idea. Brian constantly pushed me to dig deeper and identify my strengths and weaknesses that were impacting our company's ability to grow. In a short time, I had a clear path charted out, and my anxiety was in the rearview mirror. Without hesitation, I recommend Brian and his team to anyone.

When I started working with Brian I was leading like a boss. With his guidance he helped me think like a leader. His personality, his approachability, and ability to cut through the weeds to see the real stumbling blocks we were facing were my favorite parts of working with him.

Brian's positivity and enthusiasm were contagious, and my business partner and I greatly enjoyed working with him. He is empathetic and relatable, and will help you be not just a better business owner, but a better person as well. He helped shepherd us through some major transitions by giving us frameworks to tackle our problems and pushing us with some tough questions.

Brian has an unassuming way of challenging you to be a better version of yourself. I had the privileged of Brian coaching me for six months. I had a specific goal in mind and with each session he unearthed the next step. Before our time together was complete, I had not only met my goal but accomplished countless other things. Both of my businesses skyrocketed while I worked with Brian, even though I primarily focused on one. I highly recommend that you hire Brian as your coach. Your progress will be astounding.

I worked with Brian leading our masterminds back when we has on the Entreleadership team. He was really good at keeping the mastermind groups on track and accountable to ourselves and each other. I really appreciated the insights and value he added to the meeting every single week!

Your guide

Hi, I’m Brian!

I founded Three Cord Leadership in 2022. Over 10+ years and 3,500+ mastermind calls, small business owners have trusted me to help them lead their companies. As a small business owner and dad of 5 boys, I understand the pressure of leadership and believe that when it is done right, it reaches past the business and into the family.

My job is to create a room where you can speak candidly, catch your breath and make better decisions, and to help the leaders around you grow so your whole team gets stronger.

What I believe

A few convictions that shape every room I lead.

Faith shapes everything

Intentional leadership flows out of a relationship with Jesus. It’s because of Him and His example that we can love and serve people the right way.

Family is worth protecting

The people closest to you deserve your best, not just what’s left after work.

We are better together

Health never happens by accident, and no one leads well alone. We’re stronger in community.

Self care is not selfish

You can’t pour from an empty cup. Tending to yourself is what lets you serve everyone else well.

Common questions

What owners ask before they apply.

Have a question that isn’t here? Ask it on your application and Brian will answer it on your call.

What happens after I apply?

You’ll hear from Brian by email within two business days. If it looks like a fit, you’ll have a free 30-minute call to talk through what’s going on and which room fits. If there isn’t a fit yet, he’ll tell you that too.

Do the groups meet in person or online?

Weekly sessions meet online by video, so owners join from anywhere in the country. Once a year, Executive Mastermind members meet in person for a two-day retreat in Franklin, Tennessee.

How big is each group?

Each Executive Mastermind room is capped at 8 owners. Key Leader Mastermind pods have five people, one person per company.

Do I have to be a Christian to join?

Yes, for both the Executive and Key Leader Masterminds. The room works because every member makes decisions from the same values, so being a Christian is a requirement.

Who will be in the room with me?

Vetted Christian business owners from industries outside yours, so you’re never sitting across from a competitor and you get perspective you can’t get inside your own field.

How long is the commitment?

One year. Trust takes time to build, and the room works best when the same people show up every week.

What if I need to leave before the year is up?

It’s an annual commitment, and we ask every member to stay the full year. If something serious or unavoidable comes up, we’ll talk through your situation with you.

How is the Executive Mastermind different from the Key Leader Mastermind?

The Executive Mastermind is for you, the owner: the same 8 owners every week, a two-day retreat in Franklin and 1:1 calls with Brian when you need them. The Key Leader Mastermind is for the leaders on your team: two 60-minute sessions a month of leadership development and hot-seat time, never grouped with a coworker.

Is what I share kept confidential?

Yes. What’s said in the room stays in the room. That’s what lets owners talk honestly about people, money and family.

Is the retreat included?

The retreat experience and the meals there are included with every Executive Mastermind membership. Travel and lodging are on you.

How do the 1:1 calls with Brian work?

Executive Mastermind members get a link to book a 30-minute call with Brian whenever something comes up that they need to work through.
